If people are still looking for verification of this, the bug exist in today's stable Debian.
X11 crashes with "impossible keyboard combination" when you use xsetwacom to send emulated keys to the X11 server. I didn't check too much but it looks like you can send only mouse events. Since it doesn't seem to mix with Xorg-1.4 at all, why not upgrade it in Debian-stable? Nothing to lose here.
