Package: lvm2 Version: 2.02.39-2 Severity: wishlist Hi
During installation of lvm2, dm_mod isn't loaded. This means that lvcreate will fail. # lvcreate --name foo --size 1G bar /proc/misc: No entry for device-mapper found Is device-mapper driver missing from kernel? Failure to communicate with kernel device-mapper driver. /proc/misc: No entry for device-mapper found Is device-mapper driver missing from kernel? Failure to communicate with kernel device-mapper driver. Incompatible libdevmapper 1.02.27 (2008-06-25)(compat) and kernel driver striped: Required device-mapper target(s) not detected in your kernel Run `lvcreate --help' for more information. Please either fix the error message to explicitly mention that dm_mod isn't loaded, or alternatively ensure that dm_mod is either loaded during package installation (it is loaded during boot by /etc/init.d/lvm2), or by a wrapper script around the lvcreate (and any other lvm2 binaries that require it). I note that /etc/init.d/lvm2 does load dm_mod. Is there a reason that lvm2 isn't started during postinst? Thanks for your work in Debian.
