Since upgrading to 2.6.3, overlay no longer works - I just get a
green-screen with no video. Textured video works OK. Hardware is the G35
chipset.

After some investigation, I can confirm that this is a bug in the upstream
release (not Debian-specific) and has been fixed by upstream in the following
commit:
