When I configure the login theme from gdmsetup, it does not honour the
theme selected. After I close gdmsetup it again goes back to the default
blue login screen. I also have these errors when I run gdmsetup from a

I seem to be missing the gdm.conf file. Is it not installed by default?

It is, so that means you must have removed it somehow.

OK, what do I do now? Can't there be a much more meaninful message that
gdm.conf file is missing and hence it cannot save the new preferences?
