Hi,

after reading through the messages, my take on it is:

  * if the admin start using newer kernels 'by accident' with e.g. a
rescue system and then revert back to the old kernel on the system,
this is obviously very anoying and understandably worrysome if the
array gets converted to the new format.

(jftr, in my professional opinion, on servers, I would always use
the same version of the distribution on the rescue system than I
would use on the production system anyway)

however, in agreement what upstream implied in the bug, I consider
this the less "bad" case than to not ask anyone on upgrades to
manually migrate their arrays, as this is happens all the time
versus the other, quite niche, case.

  * since amd64/i386 is not affected, it originally concerned only a
small amount of system in the first place. now, several releases and
more than a decade later, almost anyone is on the new layout already
    anyway.

given all of the above, this bug will not hit anyone in real world
anymore and will almost certainly not retroactively fixed ever, hence
closing the bug rather than to leave it open here.

Regards,
Daniel
