The problem still persists here using 1.96+20090826-3, so I would rather
this bug wasn't closed. Here is my grub.cfg:

templates # from /etc/grub.d and settings from /etc/default/grub

Severity: normal
I have fixed my reportbug issue. I see that I not quite alone in this
issue as Nyizsnyik Ferenc has chimed in on this very bug and Michael
Musenbrock seems to be trying to reopen Bug#541145: grub-pc: menu and
kernels load extremely slow.
The same happens here since I upgraded grub-pc and grub-common
1.96+20090725-1 to 1.96+20090808-1, except that the second waiting
period is a bit shorter.

menu.
First, I get to look at a heading with GRUB Version 1.96 with a paragraph
about minimal bash editing. This lasts for nearly 60 seconds.
Next, the screen is black. This lasts for pretty
