Package: dhcp3-server Version: 3.1.3-1 Severity: normal I thought the bug was in the LDAP related patch but after burning two hours of debugging time[1] I found that there is a bug in the failover code. When setting up DHCP servers you might want to deploy the service in a failover'd state[2].
Turns out when you do this the leases the lonesome DHCP server dishes out has a lease lifetime set to zero; causing no end of troubles at the client end with a "no expiry time on offered lease." error message. Obviously one solution is "do not deploy a reduced failed-over setup", however it's a bug that should be squished and the usual lease times should be pushed out; failing that at lease some warning in the logfiles or maybe in the documentation. Cheers [1] and only then annoyingly deciding to create a 'static' LDAP formed dhcpd.conf file and run the dhcpd-noldap daemon off it [2] much akin to installing an OS on a reduced RAID1 -- System Information: Debian Release: 5.0.3 APT prefers stable APT policy: (500, 'stable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.26-2-amd64 (SMP w/4 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_GB.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_GB.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages dhcp3-server depends on: ii debconf [debconf-2.0] 1.5.24 Debian configuration management sy ii debianutils 2.30 Miscellaneous utilities specific t ii dhcp3-common 3.1.3-1 common files used by all the dhcp3 ii libc6 2.7-18 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii lsb-base 3.2-20 Linux Standard Base 3.2 init scrip dhcp3-server recommends no packages.
