Package: git-buildpackage Version: 0.4.62 Severity: normal Hi,
One of the first things git-buildpackage does is running debian/rules (for some purpose I haven't yet figured out, nor really tried to). Anyway, it does so without checking the build dependencies first, which might break things without a pretty error message. For example, when I run git-buildpackage on itself, I get: matth...@xanthe:~/docs/src/upstream/git-buildpackage$ git-buildpackage debian/rules:6: /usr/share/cdbs/1/rules/debhelper.mk: No such file or directory debian/rules:7: /usr/share/cdbs/1/class/python-distutils.mk: No such file or directory make: *** No rule to make target `/usr/share/cdbs/1/class/python-distutils.mk'. Stop. debuild: fatal error at line 1312: couldn't exec fakeroot debian/rules: debuild -d clean returned 2 Couldn't run 'debuild -d clean' Whereas running dpkg-buildpackage aborts with a nice error: dpkg-checkbuilddeps: Unmet build dependencies: cdbs gtk-doc-tools sgml2x jade Perhaps git-buildpackage should run dpkg-checkbuilddeps as well?
