This bug is in testing already.
For me, wicd started working again after cleaning up /usr/lib/python2.5/site-
packages/wicd directory.

As for python-wicd, note that it's already installed on my system :

What happens if you do:
$ python -c import wicd.wpath; print wicd.wpath.version
? It should print 1.7.0.
