[topic--overlap-strcpy-fix]: make corrupts commands with latest eglibc
make uses strcpy() on overlapping strings, recent (e)glibc doesn't
tolerate this. strcpy is not defined to work on overlapping regions.

The fix comes thanks to Roderich Schupp and Max Bowsher.
