Package: devicekit-disks Version: 009-3 Severity: normal Hi,
as already reported in #564854, I've got a "Western Digital My Passport Essential 500GB Black" external harddisk drive, that includes a separate fake CD-ROM partition to hold the proprietary "WD SmartWare Software". When I plug in the device, dmesg reports that both a new CD-ROM drive and a new harddisk have been found and registered as /dev/sr1 and /dev/sdb1 respectively: usb 2-2: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 3 usb 2-2: New USB device found, idVendor=1058, idProduct=070a usb 2-2: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=3 usb 2-2: Product: My Passport 070A usb 2-2: Manufacturer: Western Digital usb 2-2: SerialNumber: 575841304139394E35323837 usb 2-2: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice scsi5 : SCSI emulation for USB Mass Storage devices usb-storage: device found at 3 usb-storage: waiting for device to settle before scanning usb-storage: device scan complete scsi 5:0:0:0: Direct-Access WD My Passport 070A 1030 PQ: 0 ANSI: 4 scsi 5:0:0:1: CD-ROM WD Virtual CD 070A 1030 PQ: 0 ANSI: 4 scsi 5:0:0:2: Enclosure WD SES Device 1030 PQ: 0 ANSI: 4 sd 5:0:0:0: Attached scsi generic sg2 type 0 sd 5:0:0:0: [sdb] 975400960 512-byte logical blocks: (499 GB/465 GiB) sr1: scsi3-mmc drive: 51x/51x caddy sr 5:0:0:1: Attached scsi CD-ROM sr1 sr 5:0:0:1: Attached scsi generic sg3 type 5 ses 5:0:0:2: Attached Enclosure device ses 5:0:0:2: Attached scsi generic sg4 type 13 sd 5:0:0:0: [sdb] Write Protect is off sd 5:0:0:0: [sdb] Mode Sense: 23 00 10 00 sd 5:0:0:0: [sdb] Assuming drive cache: write through sd 5:0:0:0: [sdb] Assuming drive cache: write through sdb: sdb1 sd 5:0:0:0: [sdb] Assuming drive cache: write through sd 5:0:0:0: [sdb] Attached SCSI disk However, only the harddisk part of the device (i.e. /dev/sdb1) is automatically mounted; the CD-ROM part doesn't even show up in Nautilus' computer:/// view. It does show up in Palimsest though, so I am asking why the partition isn't automatically mounted (as e.g. in Windows XP) as well. Cheers, Fabian PS: Feel free to ask if you need additional information, some can even be found in my initial bug report in #564854. -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (550, 'unstable'), (400, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.32-2-686 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=de_DE.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=de_DE.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages devicekit-disks depends on: ii libatasmart4 0.17+git20100219-1 ATA S.M.A.R.T. reading and parsing ii libc6 2.10.2-6 Embedded GNU C Library: Shared lib ii libdbus-1-3 1.2.20-2 simple interprocess messaging syst ii libdbus-glib-1-2 0.84-1 simple interprocess messaging syst ii libglib2.0-0 2.22.4-1 The GLib library of C routines ii libgudev-1.0-0 151-2 GObject-based wrapper library for ii libparted1.8-12 1.8.8.git.2009.07.19-6 The GNU Parted disk partitioning s ii libpolkit-backend 0.96-1 PolicyKit backend API ii libpolkit-gobject 0.96-1 PolicyKit Authorization API ii libsgutils2-2 1.28-2 utilities for working with generic ii libudev0 151-2 libudev shared library ii udev 151-2 /dev/ and hotplug management daemo Versions of packages devicekit-disks recommends: ii dosfstools 3.0.9-1 utilities for making and checking ii hdparm 9.27-2 tune hard disk parameters for high ii mtools 4.0.12-1 Tools for manipulating MSDOS files ii ntfs-3g 1:2010.1.16-0.1 read-write NTFS driver for FUSE ii ntfsprogs 2.0.0-1+b1 tools for doing neat things in NTF ii policykit-1 0.96-1 framework for managing administrat Versions of packages devicekit-disks suggests: pn cryptsetup <none> (no description available) pn mdadm <none> (no description available) pn reiserfsprogs <none> (no description available) pn xfsprogs <none> (no description available) -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe".
