This is a very good question. I have not heard about this problem before.
It could potentially be a combination affect. Obviously the vnc server
do not behave the same as the normal X server.
They question is why...
Hopefully the new vnc team that is forming will be able to solve this.

i use tightvncserver -depth 16 -geometry 1024x768 on my office debian system
and then i connect from home using a vnc client from an old ibook
yesterday, using djview4, that permits to save a selection
