Sox syntax has changed, particularly "-w" has been changed to "-2". gen.c did 
not contain this change.

In Ubuntu, we've applied the attached patch to achieve the following:

  * gen.c: replaced -w reference with -2, many thanks Mathias Bøhn
    Grytemark (LP: #600989)

We thought you might be interested in doing the same.
