I too use libsafe. I can confirm that removing libsafe from /etc/ld.so.preload
makes this problem with samba go away.

Having libsafe in /etc/ld.so.preload and putting /usr/sbin/smbd and
/usr/bin/smblicent into /etc/libsafe.exclude does NOT solve the
problem. This is unfortunate, as I'd like to run with libsafe. Any
ideas on that?
