The log file created by monit:
-rw-r- 1 root root 322 2011-02-17 01:57:53 /var/log/monit.log
Correct.
As usual, if the permissions are 640, the group should by adm, not root.
Why? It's intentional behaviour.
Note that /etc/logrotate.d/monit is already
