I am seeing the same behavior using live-build 3.0~a16-1 to make a sid image
with syslinux.
I am building on squeeze. Not sure if that matters.

I could now build an ISO which displays the semi-graphical boot menu but it
only contains the "other options" sub-menu.
And when I check into syslinux-themes-debian-squeeze/syslinux-live templates I
