I tried to recreate this issue and cannot with the confluence script provided on Debian 9. So I believe this bug has been fixed upstream. Or there is a missing piece of the puzzle, another script or customization, for example.
Unless this issue can be reproducible on a modern Debian system I suggest the bug can be closed. - Jesse
