Hi,
I had the very same problem and the regular gnome-shell session now
works for me after the last upgrade of the nvidia drivers (version
290.10-1).

I tried the new nvidia drivers and the situation is the same
# dpkg -l nvidia* | grep ii
ii nvidia-alternative 290.03-1
allows the selection of NVIDIA as GLX provider
ii nvidia-glx 290.03-1
