Thanks for your report.

We are now working on packaging Octave 3.6.1, which should enter
unstable soon (Octave 3.4.3 is already in experimental, see [1]).

Then we will upload a new version of octave-optim depending on Octave
3.6, and this will fix this bug.

In the meantime, you can probably downgrade to an older version of
octave-optim, see [2].
