as an alternative, debhelper compatibility level 9 could be used. with
that version, the proper arguments (QMAKE_CFLAGS_RELEASE etc) are passed
to qmake already. the '-- $(shell ...)' line would still be removed.

(just stumbled upon this when looking for a way to harden my own
packages, and found out it was redundant.)
