However, it's still possible to change the setting via dpkg-reconfigure(8). It still makes sense to drop the second “'.*'” off printf, and to add a notice that /etc/default/netdiag is /not/ a conffile, and will be overwritten. E. g., I tend to occasionally edit comments in the files below /etc, and I'd be surprised to find that my edits are silently discarded.
