Dear Maintainer, When beginning a text search in less by pressing the '/' key, you are presented with a blank line to type your search string into. It is possible to scroll backwards and forwards through the search history, in order to repeat a previous search (with or without modifications). The behavior of this scrolling at the "bottom" of the list has changed, in a way that I find both unintuitive and undesirable. Steps to reproduce: * View a file in less. * Press '/' to display a blank search line. * Press the Up arrow to display the most recent search string. * Press the down arrow. Expected result: The original blank search line is displayed again. Actual result: The screen flashes in the manner of a "system beep" event, and the displayed search string does not change. It is useful to be able to easily return to a blank search string, for example in order to quickly and conveniently cancel the search without changing the displayed search results. It is also not intuitive that "up then down" does not return to the original location. This behavior change appears to be a side effect of an intentional change: the ability to scroll through only search strings beginning with a particular prefix, by typing that prefix before pressing the Up or Down arrow. I am not positive, but I believe this was introduced in less version 449. Please restore the blank "current search" entry in the less search history. -- System Information: Debian Release: jessie/sid APT prefers stable-updates APT policy: (500, 'stable-updates'), (500, 'testing'), (500, 'stable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Foreign Architectures: i386 Kernel: Linux 3.9-1-amd64 (SMP w/12 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages less depends on: ii debianutils 4.4 ii libc6 2.17-92 ii libtinfo5 5.9+20130608-1 less recommends no packages. less suggests no packages. -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe".
