Looks like this issue got fixed upstream:

A 2.1.2 release is on the horizon, so I won't bother back-porting the
fix, but focus on delivering 2.1.2 promptly.

this simple query (no setup needed):
SELECT
ST_GeomFromGeoJSON('{type:Polygon,bbox:[1017529.72,5087648.60,1095801.24,5165920.12],
coordinates:[]}')::box2d;
crashes the server.
