The current ‘subnetcalc’ package has a “Recommends: iputils-ping” dependency. But that is not the only package providing a compatible ‘ping’ program; any package that “Provides: ping” should be able to satisfy the needs of ‘subnetcalc’. The result of the current dependency is that if a different package providing ‘ping’ is already installed, this dependency cannot be satisfied without removing the existing package.
