issue persists
I've narrowed this down to the optimization for tree-vrp.

Removing the following line from debian/rules let's me build Jessie source
on Jessie that works when installed on Jessie:
CFLAGS += -O2
I should have also mentioned that building from Jessie source on Jessie
produces the same failure everyone else sees in this bug report.

I can also confirm this bug and the error message "Login verification
down or unavailable". Downgrading the package restores functionality.
I intend to test which particular patch (or set of patches) in the
source package introduces the error

Upon upgrading from libmeanwhile1 1.0.2-4.1 to 1.0.2-5, attempting to
