* It doesn't seem to actually result in very significant data loss. * Pointing --git-dir at something not a git repo is asking for undefined behavior. This is a little more undefined than could be desired, but the user is mucking around with internals. With that said, if git-annex were being updated for some other reason, it would be fine to cherry-pick 334f3669791510f30a184d1b6c8d7196d0f19e12 which removes the problimatic transition code. -- see shy jo
