# mke2fs -t ext4 /dev/sde5
mke2fs 1.42.12 (29-Aug-2014)
The file /dev/sde5 does not exist and no size was specified.

It does too. I just created it with cfdisk.
dmesg|tail doesn't show anything odd.

Anyway some better error message is needed.

# ls -l /dev/sde?
brw-rw---- 1 root disk 8, 65 11-06 01:02 /dev/sde1
brw-rw---- 1 root disk 8, 66 11-06 01:02 /dev/sde2
brw-rw---- 1 root disk 8, 67 11-06 01:02 /dev/sde3

So I don't know why cfdisk, which says "syncing disks" after quitting,
doesn't notify the rest of Debian about the new partitions.

Or maybe it is just my bad luck with USB in general.
Better backup anything to hard disk as often unmounted superblocks get
zapped (upon poweroff?), no matter what card reader...
