Package: base-installer
Version: 1.157
Severity: Wishlist

Hello D-I team,

The udeb base-installer does always install a kernel.

For several virtualisation platform it doesn't make sense to install a kernel.
It would be handy to make the kernel install optional.

An aproach might installing kernel in a seperate udeb.

Another aproach would be a debconf variable like "di/doinstallkernel",
a boolean with default value 'true'.

Making variable "di/doinstallkernel" _not local_ to base-installer
allows it to reuse at bootloader install time.

Cheers
