Package: fai-server
Version: 4.3.1+deb8u1
Severity: minor
Control: affects -1 debian-lan-config
Dear Maintainer,
The behavior of fai-chboot -d and -e depends on what the default PXE
configuration is.
the man-page fai-chboot(8) currently reads:
-d Disable network booting for HOST. This renames the config
file
adding the suffix .disable to it.
-e Reenable network booting for HOST. This renames the
config file
removing the suffix .disable from it, so the next time
it uses
the PXE configuration.
This does not really disable/re-enable PXE booting-- it just makes the host
use the default boot configuration. If the PXE default configuration is not
localboot, then network booting is not disabled by the -d flag.
In the Debian LAN configuration, the default PXE configuration is
(supposed) to boot as a thin
client, but it appears to have some problems itself and does
reinstallation instead.
The result is that when installation finishes (with fai-chboot -d set to
run at the end of the
process), the machine continuously network boots and reinstalls.
Perhaps the manpage can be reworded to say:
-d Set HOST to use the default network boot configuration.
This renames the config
file for HOST by adding the suffix .disable to it, making
PXE fall back to default.
-e Reenable network boot configuration for HOST. This
renames the config file,
removing the suffix .disable from it, so the next time it
uses
its own PXE configuration.
Thanks and regards
Afif
