This is resolved.
Turns out the problem was related to my iceweasel apparmor profile,
which was preventing access to .config/freshwrapper-data.
Now works. Thanks for your effort.

Are you sure you try 0.3.5-1~bpo8+1 and not 0.3.5-1?

...
