Dear Maintainer, I was debugging a failure of the Claws Mail Python plugin on Ubuntu 17.04. See LP: #1640217 https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/claws-mail/+bug/1640217 What I found out through gdb tracing the loading of the plugin is that it tries to "import gtk", which means it imports that package's __init__.py. However by default, claws-mail-python-plugin doesn't depend on python-gtk2 (which is the package that owns that file), so the import fails, and thus the loading of the plugin fails. Given the reverse-depends on python-gtk2, I might not be normally obvious that the dependency is missing, but it may not already be installed on a fresh or minimal installation. - -- System Information: Debian Release: stretch/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 4.8.0-1-amd64 (SMP w/8 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Init: systemd (via /run/systemd/system) -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- iQIzBAEBCAAdFiEEhBcVftvnPZ6sHlObEm61Y6dLBr8FAlgs060ACgkQEm61Y6dL Br/kzQ//URKh0ioNTc7TvgQ1fvjR3FKHkbDHmCCzk9V89qQZrdyHfYK81hRwX2Qx WyCn0Nv/u1ow/YQt2zCZgKpeaoFCA5i0AwfpKbzeM8Njp69AGdsHKePZk0hqSwf2 Ih63STMoHcE9xexi8zhQPnyXgnoPK9T9z0IRJ25qVBwDAK8pSWCJtfhu6whN7Zev XchqmTQJuuupaDRzb9LLtLuReO26xJwav4PB4qYhA1EJG0IZlaFr7fTZGAwxDUe9 ODIn+t3hFprMMLBxOw4i19ftvAyIWt3DMnJ3tDb0eN7SZVkobxoZdPltN8Sgnv22 dzAdob9Wua2f2sgV8XodYsE7oOVb4wRT8t4TNgavppaPSGsQg/Foh6y1TTBjVhYk dBfw9iSo6Ui0iTxT/rwYbX7Mcgl4q8sv5e5zu1Q14rifnJs5K8uOqS2oMKOzXkki 8/vkNi2nZk1m1pmRMe3XQNYT7keQ5R/ufJh7BWXhkHWh6m/fWLwAzISxAN1AhqtE jtKHAwSiRkh56ioElLW5eto6GKLCvKoux1VAISlgtdhuKySYcx9+D64l2/ecOQU5 a4WZ6tDcG01puVdwUKU/SovtXMKlJv9CWTUjFTrW5YAyt6f86jwZZrYlXcdiKkyg d/4HDq7YJmeeW5poWsb0prbZa4whHie6JfMPAaiKzIXBHG9Txhs= =a/V1 -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----
