Package: gddccontrol Version: 0.4.4-1 Severity: normal User: pkg-gnome-maintain...@lists.alioth.debian.org Usertags: wayland
gddccontrol seems to require the GUI be run as root and as a result it currently doesn't work under Wayland. GNOME are working on allowing X11 apps to run as root under Wayland but once gddccontrol becomes a Wayland app it won't be able to run as root. So I think that the right way to fix this is to make the app run as the user but make calls to a dbus or other API running as root. $ echo $DISPLAY $WAYLAND_DISPLAY :0 wayland-0 $ gddccontrol GUI: No monitor supporting DDC/CI available $ sudo gddccontrol No protocol specified (gddccontrol:20140): Gtk-WARNING **: 12:11:34.961: cannot open display: :0 -- System Information: Debian Release: 10.0 APT prefers testing-debug APT policy: (900, 'testing-debug'), (900, 'testing'), (860, 'testing-proposed-updates'), (800, 'unstable-debug'), (800, 'unstable'), (790, 'buildd-unstable'), (700, 'experimental-debug'), (700, 'experimental'), (690, 'buildd-experimental') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 4.19.0-5-amd64 (SMP w/4 CPU cores) Kernel taint flags: TAINT_FIRMWARE_WORKAROUND, TAINT_OOT_MODULE, TAINT_UNSIGNED_MODULE Locale: LANG=en_AU.utf8, LC_CTYPE=en_AU.utf8 (charmap=UTF-8), LANGUAGE=en_AU.utf8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Init: systemd (via /run/systemd/system) LSM: AppArmor: enabled Versions of packages gddccontrol depends on: ii ddccontrol 0.4.4-1 ii libc6 2.28-10 ii libddccontrol0 0.4.4-1 ii libglib2.0-0 2.58.3-2 ii libgtk2.0-0 2.24.32-3 ii libpango-1.0-0 1.42.4-6 ii policykit-1 0.105-25 gddccontrol recommends no packages. gddccontrol suggests no packages. -- bye, pabs https://wiki.debian.org/PaulWise
