I confirm the issue and the workaround.
Workaround in more detail: Revert to previous version, backup existing
database in /usr/share/man-db (rename the folder). Recreate database with
sudo -u mandb -create. Upgrade man-db.
2.8.5-2 works fine, 2.8.6 does not expose always the problem, and doing
an update with 2.8.6 after a successful cache creation by 2.8.5, does
not crashes mandb
