I encountered the same problem upgrading from (jessie to) stretch to
buster today. I was successful using the simpler workaround of deleting
compatibility.ini from my profile. Once Firefox started, it recreated a

I removed the timestamp part and bumped down the middle number of LastVersion
down by one (to 68.2.0, b/c I had installed 68.3.0) and started Firefox without
any problems.
