Sorry about that, stupid shell script bug, clearly I wasn't paying any
attention at all (I intended for the logic in the prerm to be the same
as in the postinst).

I'd suggest that you repeat the command with --dist=sarge
--debootstrap as an initial step. If that fails, or if you
wish to generate more output please add --verbose and
send the log to this bug report.

is without that option, and I would assume that the scripts knows
itself when to use debootstrap and when to use
