Indeed, setting LANG=C allows me to start rdesktop, and exactly as
you're describing, by hitting the enter key, it crashes again.

When trying to connect to any machine (rdesktop -g 1280x1024 host), I
get a segfault.

I can not load the nvidia kernel module (built using module-assistant)
