With the attached patch 'trn4' can be compiled
on amd64 using gcc-4.0.
I took a slightly different approach, namely adjusting some #include

FWIW, MODULES=dep works fine for me on my PowerBook.
I think this change is probably worth it - we've had a number of issues
in the past with large initrds on powerpc.
