I had this problem too, exactly as the initial description and was introduced by itself and never solved by itself. The trick of Maria Jose Santofimia Romero to restart apache from another terminal while hanging worked, but then there were still other unknown problems still making it impossible to run ASP.NET applications at all. I kept postponing everything i needed it for all the time until yesterday getting the existing installation to work. Because the huge error log output and on screen were not helpful, i tried everything on a clean Debian Jessie installation (from the first beta installer) and that did not work either. I did not get the problem this bug thread topic though while installing libapache2-mod-mono and not on my original system either from which i tried to purge/reinstall various apache/mono things hoping to get it to work. So it is possible that this bug can't be reproduced anymore. But to finally get things to work, i ended up modifying /etc/mono-server4/mono-server4-hosts.conf the line: MonoPath default /usr/lib/mono/4.0:/usr/lib into MonoPath default /usr/lib/mono/4.5:/usr/lib Not sure why this https://packages.debian.org/jessie/mono-apache-server4 mentions .NET 1.1 while the above contains 4.0 but only works with 4.5. But in case helpful here is a error log snippet of what i got when not changing that file:[Wed Sep 24 14:47:24.633185 2014] [core:notice] [pid 14546] AH00094: Command line: '/usr/sbin/apache2' Listening on: /tmp/mod_mono_server_global Root directory: / Listening on: /tmp/.mod_mono_server4 Root directory: / Stacktrace:
