Section 9.1.1 of the Debian Policy Manual says that packages "must" comply with the Filesystem Hierarchy Standard (FHS), version 2.3, which in turn define clear roles for /var/lib and /var/cache. WebGUI's use of /var/lib/webgui/cache as a cache is incompatible with the definition given in the FHSv2.3 for /var/lib. This use is perfectly compatible with /var/cache, therefore the Debian package should install its cache directory under /var/cache as mandated by the Debian Policy. I'm filling this bug with upstream as I believe this change should also be adopted by the authors for all of their Linux releases. I'm not including my /etc/default/webgui as its contents are irrelevant to this report.
