I had a similar error with version 2.3.0 of Calc, on a previously Excel file that I had later saved in ods format. It started happening right after I renamed the Excel-defined ranges of data into something more meaningful for me (Greek names). The file then could not be saved in any of my PC's (all running Ubuntu 7.10 Gutsy Gibbon), but I also couldn't rename those ranges back.
What I did to fix it was: 1. I unzipped the ods file 2. I used nano to open the content.xml file for editing 3. Using Alt+R I searched and replaced all the names I had given to data ranges, with others, using latin characters this time 4. I saved the content.xml file and exited nano 5. I zipped everything back together and changed the .zip extension back to .ods 6. I opened the file in OO and everything was working like a clock. I hope this helps.
