I unfortunately did not copy the dependency situation prior, however
whilst in the position where perl 5.8.8 could not be upgraded due to
dependency issues, I was unable to install or remove any software using
apt or aptitude due to dpkg errors proce

against perlapi-5.8.*, this causes the symbol lookup error. The new
version had not been unpacked yet.
