I've submitted a merge request for this bug report at https://salsa.debian.org/eric/geekcode/-/merge_requests/2/diffs based on the current state of your git repository (and not the current state of the package in Debian Unstable). I'm also thinking about NMU'ing this issue given how long this has been open. But since you merged another MR about two months ago or so, I assume and hope that providing a bite-sized patch will speed up things. :-) Didn't fix more lintian issues. though, as this MR is intended to work as NMU, too.
