I think this is a valid point that should be discussed. How do third-party tools cope with merged-/usr (as implemented in Debian and elsewhere)? And how is the support for the proposed symlink farm layout? Has anyone done prior investigation on this? Are there already experimental systems converted to the new layout or some way to convert an existing system to this for testing (not on a production system)? It might be interesting to experiment with the new layout. Ansgar
