dpkg-deb -x package.deb happily overwrites symlinks on the filesystems
with directories. I don't know whether this is desired behavior.

Hi,
I recently encountered "no space left on device" errors at the end of a
multi-hour build of a huge package:
dpkg-deb (subprocess): compressing tar member: lzma write error: No space left
on device
It would have been vastly easier to debug this
This should be fixed with dpkg 1.18.17. Please verify.

this is a followup to the discussion I had with Guillem in some bug
reports in early 2016 and in private mail, the latter unfortunately
never answered.
I think that the path-include option is handling symlinks differently
from normal files, whic
--path-exclude=/foo/bar --path-exclude='/foo/bar/*', and to make sure
that the glob does not get processed by the shell by using appropriate
quoting".

some postrm scripts use dpkg-statoverride --force --remove to get rid
of overrides during purge. Recent versions of dpkg-statoverride give
an error message "No override present." in this case, which can not be
turned of via --quiet. They there
