Package: dpkg
Version: 1.16.1.2

and

Package: tar
Version: 1.20-1+lenny1

Upgrading dpkg 1.15.8.12 to dpkg_1.16.1.2_i386.deb breaks all package installation, because further package install fail with:

tar: "--warning=no-timestamp" switch unknown (translated back to English)

dpkg cannot be downgraded either, so only a binary /bin/tar copy from a working install works.

Installing tar 1.23-3 or newer fixes the problem.

I suggest dpkg 1.16.1.2 to depend on tar 1.23-3 or newer. I falled into this problem twice, and it's very annoying, this is why I report, I hope this helpes others.
