DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS=noopt,nostrip dpkg-buildpackage worked here on i386,
so I think the debug

Gah. I knew I had to be doing something stupid. Thanks.

I'm having trouble with the GCJ included in Debian sid. Here's a
sample file:
,[ Test.java ]
| package gnu.foo;
|
| class Test {
| public static void main(String[] args) {
| System.out.println("Hello, World!");

Well, I get a different problem building my code with these packages
than I do with the older GCJ. But I think this is a generic problem
with GCJ and not a problem with the packages.

Well, I couldn't find anything related in incoming, and
http://ftp-master.debian.org/~doko was an empty directory, and
~doko/gcc gave me a 404.

Anyone have any hints? This doesn't look like an error that should
result from enabling Java.
I've saved the whole (5.4 megabyte) build log, and can make it
available upon request.

I don't think libgcj300-dev is very useful without libgcj300. Is
there a policy that -dev packages should depend on their non-dev
counterparts?
