Thanks, Matthias. OK. I'm feeling better, now. I don't seem to have the mail-transfer set up correctly (no logs sent) ;-( I have more unexpected failures than the reference log, though). My goal is to compile gcc, c., and install the .debs. Somewhat confused about optimization: the gcc doc

I'm still green, but eager to optimize this stuff for my Debian 3.0 on a K6-2. Thinking that gcc is the first step in the process . . . . Have been trying to build 2.95.x and 3.0.x from dpkg-source -x *.dsc: deps seem to be in order, but I have come-up with much more confusion that is
