It's a bug in Dante. I diagnosed it for Bdale a couple of weeks ago,
so I don't exactly remember the details; I believe it's calling
__res_init at a time when it shouldn't and it used to work by luck.

there is a "3D" before some of the functios. It is a mistake and the
