There's been a lot of misunderstanding. I would clarify it all but we're
missing the point of the bug.
When I was talking about multiarch, the concept, I was talking about the
idea, the purpose, the ability to run applications for other
architectures. I think we share this same goal. We differ on

You say it's hackish without naming any reason. I say it's working
providing a repository.

The version in unstable allows multiarch compilation.

That gtk+2.0 version's in unstable. pango1.0's already in testing.

On second thought, since you're uploading new versions, some developers
allow multiarch flavors in their packages (gtk+2.0 recently) and there
are no such upgrade problems (you could even choose a different config
name: libc6-i386.conf), please reconsider this bug.
It'd be nic

Is there a chance we could use an architecture independent format

Please include /etc/ld.so.conf.d/i486-linux-gnu.conf from libc6 on i386
arch. This will enable libraries installed by multiarch packages (e.g.,
pango1.0 built with DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS=multiarch).

Current postinst script adds all locales (of course, the name is
locales-all :)
This makes current scheme take more disk space than the previous one.
Using the script provided in bug #375829 is still the best option (using

Well, my idea was having this /usr/lib/locales-all/locales.tar.gz
packaged instead of the uncompressed files.

Would it be enough to divert locale-gen? The debconf part could be the
same as in locales, then

All locales could be compressed in a single archive and, using a dialog
like in locales package, uncompress the selected ones instead of
compiling them.
