Somewhere in the past there was a very simple patch (look for "not_cancel")

That could be the case. When I tried to add the patch to the source package,
it told me that all hunks failed because it was already applied. Now I
changed the "series" file in debian/patches to revert the patch and build
the package again...

This can be enabled by changing debian/sysdeps/alpha.mk !
I will not do this as the package build takes too long on my machine and I
do not want wait 3.5 hours ag

Is there a simple way to reinstall the sarge(stable) libc6.1 again on
an testing system and prevent apt-get from updating it (very
important - I never found out how to prevent apt-get from updating
specific packages that should stay unchanged - any apt.conf
directive)? Which .debs must be insta

Tested today the latest experimental libc6.1 (package version 2.3.999 but
inside is glibc 2.4) and locales package - no more defunct processes!
